Back in 2016, the hospital cared for and rehabilitated 431 animals, but this year that number has risen to 1,137, with koalas among the most affected species.

Terri said that it costs $2.5 million every year to supply the animals with the necessary treatment.

In a post to Instagram, the 62-year-old explained that “It’s overwhelming to experience the number of animals that now need our care, and concerning to think what would happen if our dedicated team of veterinarians, nurses, volunteers, and carers were not here to help.”

The hospital’s manager Dr Ludo Valenza said that the amount of koalas they have treated in the last year has been “unprecedented”, and that pet attacks, car strikes, and habitat loss are all contributing to the stark increase.
